Jerko Rošin (Split, 5 Oct. 1942) is a Croatian architect, publicist, composer and children' s writer.

Jerko Rošin graduated from the Zagreb School of Architecture (former School of Architecture, Civil engineering and Geodesy) in prof. Vladimir Turina' s class. He has also been a part of his team in a few tender projects, e.g. for the sport centre of Teheran. The studies in Zagreb have considerably formed his architectural credos implying that the values of architecture lie in its sincerety towards the assignment, responsibility towards the user, modesty in relation to the proper pretentiousness and respect towards the available space.

Thanks to the circumstance of his first relevant employment with a joint company UNION-TURIST DALMACIJA in Split, his starting professional interest was directed towards tourist construction. The experiences acquired, such as work on planning of tourist construction and programme elaboration for particular investments planned in the area from Zadar do Dubrovnik, were the basis for his subsequent work as an independent and self-supporting architect as early as 1974, under the roof of the IPZ company of Zagreb, and friendly mentorship of his colleague Julije de Luca. In 1990 he was appointed manager and responsible architect of „KOTEKS ENGINEERING“, and in 1993 he founded architectural bureau „Studio R“, in which he works as architect, project leader and project coordinator.

In over 40 years of professional career he has designed over 700 titles, within a vast range of different architectural tasks, including all kinds of tourist and residential objects, various industrial plants, health care buildings, theatres, concert halls, exhibition halls, libraries, cemeteries, casinos, post office buildings, welfare objects, sports objects... He is also the author of a great numberof urban plans of various planning levels, as well as of project programmes. A great number, almost 70% of his projects, have been realized.

He improved his knowledge and skills partly through additional education on thematic postgraduate sutudies and specialized trainings (training in Development of French Mediterranean tourism in 1973; postgraduate study of Protection and revitalization of building heritage in 1976/77), and partly on study journeys to all inhabited continents, by studying tourist and residential topics as well as those of urban character and life culture.

He was also professionally engaged as Sercretary of Split Association of architects from 1970 to 1972, as president of Town-planning society of the district of Split from 1978 to 1981 and the president of the Council for urban planning of the Government of the Republic of Croatia from 2004 to 2008. In 2006 he was elected senior lecturer at the Study of architecture of the University of Split.

Political activity

He started his political career in 2007 with membership in the Croatian democratic party (HDZ) where he fills the post of the vice-chairman of the City organization of HDZ of Split.

In parliamentary elections by the end of the same year he participated in the HDZ list for the 10th election unit and was elected to the Croatian parliament.

He started his term of office on 11th January 2008 with duties of president of Parliamentary Board for urban planning and construction, member of Board for foreign policy, member of Board for interparliamentary cooperation, member of Croatian parliament mission in Common parliamentary board of the Republic of Croatia and European union and member of the Vladimir Nazor award board.

As representative of Croatian parliament he took part in the 6th Gathering of Global parliamentarians on HABITAT in Bucharest in 2008, where he was elected vice-chairman of Directors' committee for Europe.

Publicist writing

In addition to his frequent participation in thematic professional congresses, conventions, workshops, seminars, round-table talks and in numerous scientific discussions in general he is also the author of professional articles published both in the scientific programmes of the 3rd Croatian radio channel and in almost all Croatian publications as well.

He published his reflections on architecture but also on urban and life culture in general in a weekly column „Did I need that“ in the Slobodna Dalmacija paper fom 2001 to 2006, which he later collected and published in 3 books.

Composer's work

Together with graduating from Classical high school in Split he finished Lower music school Josip Hatze. He started singing by the end of 1959 at graduation balls in Split and at the First applause, where he was awarded the first prize. At first his repertory included mostly Italian canzoni from San Remo, later he turned to compositions of popular English and American singers with backing of the radio Luxemburg. He was a member of KUD (Cultural and artistic group) Mozaik, almost from its foundation, in singer section, and as a member of DO-RE-MI trio he participated in the entertainment group of the Split radio. He took part in numerous festivals with his own compositions, for which he often wrote lyrics, and as a student of Zagreb School of Architecture he took part in the first Students' Festival in 1962 and won the audience prize. He also participated in the then international festival of Split Jadran melodies in 1964, in the Zagreb summer festival in 1965, and in the Youth festival in Subotica where he was awarded a series of prizes in 1966 and 1967.

After graduating from Zagreb School of Architecture in 1967 he returned to Split and gave up singing and playing, but continued occasional composing and writing lyrics and participating in music life of Split in organizational sense.

In 2000 he published a collection of poems for children „Queer little poems“ that a year later, in collaboration with Jakša Fiamengo, became libretto for children's musical „Hail on the plate“, for which he composed music. „Queer little poems“ were republished in enlarged edition, with accompanying CD, in 2005.
